Most real estate licensees show up at their new office immediately after they pass the exam……wondering what to do next and ready to start making some of that big stash of loot they’ve heard so much about. And, like many new agents, they are sent to a class - or two, three, even twenty – somewhere, or they are taken under their wing of a well-intentioned manager and “shown the ropes”. Or, like in the old days…some version of “Here’s your desk, here’s your phone……….good luck”. And, sometimes, that works…it’s just that the odds are very much against it; hence the incredible drop out rate in this industry. So, why doesn’t that work? Most people in the business think they take listings and sell houses. That’s part of it; but if it’s the only job an agent does, a licensee is just a licensed assistant – working to grow someone else’s business – not a business person. Some companies work on the pasta principle – throw enough pasta against the wall; some of it will stick; hire enough agents, some of them will actually make it.
